Alabama Volunteer Fire Depts.

Help Us Help You... WHY? and HOW?
Volunteer firefighters give their time, efforts, and sometimes lives, to protect their communities.  They receive no compensation other than a feeling of wellbeing for helping their neighbors.  However, their equipment, facilities, and operations require your financial support.

Reasons to Support the Georgia Mountain VFD:

  • Location: GMVFD has two stations 1) 2485 Georgia Mountain Road and 2) behind Discount Building Supply.  The complete coverage area is within 5 miles of one or the other station.

  • Coverage Area: Western edge of Browns Creek (Hwy 69 Warrenton Causeway) to Union Grove Road; Guntersville Lake/Tennessee River south to Lang's Construction Quarry.  42 sq. miles.  Warrenton, Browns Creek Rd, Cha-La-Kee Rd, Georgia Mountain, and Brindlee Mountain.

  • Services: Fire Protection (house/structure, vehicle, and wildlands); emergency medical; vehicle accidents, storm damage recovery; general emergency assistance.

  • Members: 14 firefighters with 2 EMT's.  100% volunteer.

  • City Limits vs Police Jurisdiction:

a. Incorporation into the Guntersville city limits:  Restricts the homeowner to the services of Guntersville Fire Department.  The closest fire equipment is the Blount Avenue Station, approximately 4.5 miles from the Browns Creek area.  GMVFD will not respond to fires inside the city limits without  a specific request from the Guntersville Fire Department.

b.  Remain in police jurisdiction: GMVFD and Guntersville FD are called for structure (house) fires.  GMVFD called for wildland fires.  Homeowner receives automatic coverage from both fire departments.  GMVFD equipment within 0.5 miles of Browns Creek area.  Cost of coverage is 1.5% tax on electric bill and suggested minimum donation of $4.50/month on water bill.

How you can help us:

  • Arab Water Works: Add a voluntary monthly contribution to your Arab Water Works bill.  Use a Water Works Donation Form and Home Survey Form  by clicking the button below, complete the forms and send them to the fire department or drop it in the mail slot - we’ll take care of the rest.  The monthly contributions allow the department to plan and budget accordingly.  A donation of as little as $3.00 a month goes a long way in helping the department.

  •  Private donation: The department is pleased to accept private donations if you prefer.  You can mail them to the department, drop them in the department’s mailbox, or call (256) 582-4154 to make arrangements for a pick-up.

  •  Fundraisers: The department schedules several a year - all events will be listed on our website, advertised in the local newspapers, and announced on area radio stations.

  •  Volunteers: We always need volunteers, and not just firefighters.  We welcome anyone who can help us maintain the facilities and equipment, raise funds, talk with the public, perform administrative tasks - just about anything.  Call Chief Edmonds at (256) 582-4154.  We look forward to hearing from you.

  • GMVFD Business Meetings:  The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the 2485 Georgia Mountain Road station, and start at 7:00PM.  The public is invited to attend and be involved with their fire department.

Georgia Mountain Volunteer Fire Department depends on YOU!

We always need volunteers to help with ALL areas of the department - not just firefighters but administrative and fundraising assistance.
